East Indies

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The map, first published in 1634, would become the standard representation of the East Indies up until the turn of the seventeenth century. William Blaeu's main rival, Jansson, had published a similar map in 1630. Blaeu's map is an improvement upon that of his rivals with Formosa (Taiwan), and the Marianas and Gua west of the Philippines correctly placed. Blaue was hydrographer to the Dutch East Indies Company
