Summary[edit]

Description
English: Savannah's Combat Readiness Training Center honors the men, American and Allied, who stormed ashore 70 years ago today, D-Day, on the beaches of Normandy, France. In 1943, Savannah's Combat Readiness Training Center was known as the Field Training Site, where men of the Army Air Corps learned to be Bombardiers and Turret Gunners on the B-17s and B-24s and went on to fly in this great expedition to free Europe with the Mighty 8th Air Force and the Mighty 15th Air Force. The pictures depict men of the Army Air Corps training to be Turret Gunners and Bombardiers. These same Army Air Corps flyers and many more like them went on to fly missions during D-Day and the continuing expedition to free Europe, but for many of them, their initial training was conducted at the Field Training Site, now commonly known as Savannah's Combat Readiness Training Center, Georgia Air National Guard.
