Summary[edit]

Description

As TX166, this Anson joined the RAF in 1946 and served with various Communications Squadrons and Station Flights over the next 20 years. After demob, it arrived at Southend from RAF Shawbury on 24 July 1968 in full RAF Air Support Command markings for the British Historic Aircraft Museum, which was then in being at Southend. It quickly received the 'livery' shown here, including painting over the wingtop roundels with Red Cross marks and the BHAM logo on the fin and was photographed on 21 Aug. Whether there was ever a serious intent to use G-AWML on Biafra relief work is unclear. It departed Southend for Baginton on 1 Sep and was scrapped at Weston-super-Mare in May 1970.
