Summary[edit]
DescriptionAverage click-evoked waveforms and Average hearing thresholds for younger and older adults.jpg |
English: Average hearing thresholds in decibel units (dB) are plotted for sound frequencies from 125 to 8000 Hz for younger (red circles) and older (black diamonds) adults, with error bars indicating ±1 SE (standard error, standard deviation, sigma). Hearing thresholds between the two groups are equivalent, except at 4000 and 8000 Hz (both with statistical p-value p < 0.001), where older people are less sensitive to sound. Inset: average click-evoked waveforms in microvolt for various times in milliseconds for younger and older adults. Latencies are equivalent for waves I and III; there is a trending difference for wave V (statistical p-value p = 0.083). Younger and older adults: "Participants comprised 17 young adults (18–30 years old; mean +/- SD,23.18 +/- 3.52 years; four males) and 17 older adults (60–67 years old;mean +/- SD, 62 +/- 2.24; three males)..." |
