Description
English: Albert Edelfelt. Late 1890s (?) Aurora Karamzin in old age. Pencil drawing. The Helsinki City Museum purchased the Hakasalmi Villa, its first exhibiting space, from Aurora Karamzin. The villa still functions as one of the museum's exhibition buildings today. Twice widowed, Aurora Stjervall was Finnish by birth, was partly raised in St. Petersburg, and went on to become one of the maids-in-waiting to Empress Maria Feodorovna. She received a large inheritance from her first husband Paul Demidov, part of which was used for charitable ends after she moved back to Helsinki in 1875. She was involved in helping the poor, looking after children and in popular education.
Svenska: Albert Edelfelt. Sent 1890-tal? Aurora Karamzin som gammal. Blyertsteckning.
Suomi: Albert Edelfelt. 1890-luvun loppu? Aurora Karamzin vanhana. Lyijykynäpiirustus. Helsingin kaupunginmuseo sai ensimmäiset toimitilansa Aurora Karamzinilta ostetusta, edelleenkin yhtenä museon näyttelytiloista toimivasta Hakasalmen huvilasta. Suomalaissyntyinen, osaksi Pietarissa kasvanut ja myöhemmin yhtenä keisarinna Maria Feodorovnan hovineidoista toiminut Aurora Stjernvall jäi leskeksi kaksi kertaa. Ensimmäiseltä mieheltään Paul Demidovilta hän peri suuren omaisuuden, josta hän käytti osan hyväntekeväisyyteen muutettuaan takaisin Helsinkiin 1875. Hän työskenteli köyhäinhuollon, lastensuojelun ja kansanopetuksen hyväksi.
