"Attributed to Gilles Marie Joseph Albrier (French, 1791-1863) "Portrait of Elizabeth Charlotte d'Orleans, Petite-Fille de France and Duchess of Lorraine (1676-1744)" oil on canvas unsigned, after the portrait by Pierre Gobert (French, 1662-1744) now conserved at the Chateau de Luneville, France (one of the ancestral properties of the Dukes of Lorraine and now under the auspices of the conseil departemental de Meurthe-et-Moselle), old typewritten label with sitter and artist en verso, canvas with biographical information of sitter, artist plaque. Framed. 26" x 21-1/8", framed 34" x 28-1/2" Provenance: Estate of Louis St. Lewis, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Estimate $2,000-4,000 **Previously restored and relined. Signs of inpainting upper right corner, upper center (chin and right cheek); lower left (ermine); lower right (between bodice and sleeve) and upper and mid left (drapery). Discoloration of varnish in lower right and left (blue). Diagonal surface mark upper right corner. Antique frame with surface marks, cracks and nicks." |
