Description
English: Johannes Visscher (1636- after 1696) engraved this allegorical print, representing the African continent. The print forms one of a series of six title pages designed by Nicolaas Berchem (1620-1683). This title page was meant to be used for Joan Blaeus (1598-1673) Atlas Maior, but the print was not published in that world atlas. Other prints of this page were used in atlases by a colleague of Blaeu: Pieter Mortier (1661-1711).
