Summary[edit]

Description
English: Ashford Carbonell. Cul de sac village and notorious as one of the Ludlow area's most desirable addresses. A three room cottage here will set you back £250000, and that's the smallest property in the village. A sleepy dull place, the pubs were all shut down by a previous landowner, even cidermaking was banned. To this day the place is dry, removing an obvious social focus. Good news is that there is still a school here, due to the closures in neighbouring villages. However the expansion in housing that the village needed was denied by South Shropshire Council's planning policy - roughly translated as "plebs in towns please".
Note re spelling. Both Carbonel and Carbonell are acceptable, and both used by the OS. The quirk used to be a source of a little local pride, along with the fish window in the church and the mill.
