Арсений Мацеевич в темнице. Конец 1850-х - 1860-е

Бумага, тушь, кисть, перо. 30,3 х 26,3.

Водяной знак: Whatman 1857. Внизу надпись: Всякъ образъ Крестный погибающимъ юродство, а спасаемымъ о Христb печать благодати есть. Преосвященный Арсенiй, лишенный Святительскаго сана. Подлинникъ в селb Савинскомъ. На обороте надпись: Сiя Копiя снята съ рисунка хранящегося въ Ревельской Николаевской Церкви, гдb и погребенъ бывшiй святитель Арсенiй.

Дар (по завещанию) в 1905 А.П.Бахрушина, Москва Лист исполнен с одноименной гравюры А.А.Осипова по рисунку А.Ковалькова. На гравюре, исполненной Осиповым, имеется надпись: Рис.А.К.в.л.к.в. Учитывая, что оригиналы для гравюр сохранялись редко, можно предположить, что копия исполнена не по рисунку, а по гравюре.

Мацеевич Арсений, родом из Польши. С 1742 - митрополит Сибирский, затем Ростовский. В 1765 за протест против секуляризации церковного имущества был судим Святейшим Синодом, лишен сана и заключен в Ревельскую крепость, где и скончался в 1772.
