Nous sommes sur l'ancienne ligne de Niort à Fontenay, au pied d'une pancarte commande radio. Cette dernière est d'un genre particulier puisqu'elle règle, en effet, le fonctionnement du passage à niveau suivant, situé 350 m en aval ! (en l'occurrence, PN n°110)

L'installation est dite à franchissement conditionnel car le mécanicien croisera plus loin, juste avant l'intersection avec la route, 2 feux. S'ils ne sont pas verts, passage interdit !

L'agent actionne pour ce faire une télécommande depuis le poste de conduite, qui abaissera les barrières. Ce montage rudimentaire était répandu sur des dessertes à faible trafic.
