Description
Español: El antiguo Ferrocarril de Arica a La Paz (FCALP) ya no transporta mercancías. En el lado chileno se organizan viajes turísticos, con los recorridos: "Arica-Poconchile-Arica", y "Arica-Central-Arica". "Central" era una antigua maestranza o talleres para mantener las locomotoras de vapor, de cremallera, a 1.401 metros de altura sobre el nivel del mar. Y a 70 kilómetros de Arica. En esta fotografía, el tren se dirige hacia "Central". La máquina es una diésel construida por General Electric (GE), del año 1967, modernizada. Ancho de vía 1000 milímetros, o "trocha métrica". Vía estrecha de un metro. FCALP 18102. Área desértica colindante con el desierto de Atacama.
