| Description |
English: Ardingly Branch A small connecting branch line was opened in 1864 connecting the main London to Brighton line and that of the Lewes-East Grinstead line. Despite the latter closing in 1958 the electrified branch remained in operation connecting the newly opened Bluebell Railway with Haywards Heath until 1963 when this was closed too. Part of the branch remains a small goods siding serving Hanson Aggregates who now occupy the former station at Ardingly whilst the remaining trackbed has been recently purchased by the Bluebell Railway who intend to reopen the link with the mainline at Haywards Heath sometime in the future. This view is from the bridge over the line at River's Farm. |
