It is planned forconveniences of space-use in contrast tothe old conventional arrangements. Thekitchen—the workshop of the home—iscompact and provides for the use-sequenceof equipment and it is fully equipped. The New American house contemplatesthe co-ordination of indoor and outdoorliving with terraces, porches, decks andeven roof space directly available from sev-eral rooms. It is all informal rather thansymmetrical or stylistic. It is simple in de-sign, eliminates cornices and mouldings andemphasizes livability in every possible re-spect. In this New American house there isa tendency to combine the dining roomwith the living room either at the end or asan alcove. The windows are larger andare placed where needed rather than forexternal design balance.
