Simple boldforms, carefully studied in their relation toeach other, the whole clothed in a uniformroughish texture, were accordingly decidedupon as the means of obtaining an effectwhich would be at once in character withthe site and of sufficient carrying power tojustify the prominent setting. Early in the process of determining theshape of the tower, it was realized thatapproximately the same profile should bepresented in every direction. A polygonalform approaching the round, at least above the base, was therefore considered advis-able. The arched loggia motive at the topwas designed to provide protected obser-vation points and at the same time a fineterminal for the shaft.
