English: The original canvas is oval and has been made up to a rectangle. Archibald Hope (1664-1743), of the Hopes of Hopetoun, was a Scottish merchant who was born and lived in Rotterdam. His sons set up the Hope Bank in Amsterdam. The art collector and theorist Thomas Hope of Deepdene was his grandson. Copy in Rotterdam Archives.
