| Description |
Portuguese section in the Palais du Champ-de-Mars, during the Paris 1878 World Fair. The outside façade of the Portuguese exhibit was modelled after the Jerónimos cloisters in Lisbon, which are up to this day one of the main monuments of the capital. The monastery and the cloisters were built in the middle of the fifteenth century, in a late gothic and manueline style. The gothic style that characterized the original building would have been particularly appreciated at the time of the fair, since European nineteenth-century architecture had been influenced by a renewed taste for the gothic. |
