Summary[edit]

Description
English: Approaching Tyrley Lock No 4, Shropshire Union Canal. The distinctive brown colour of the water comes from the sandstone origin of the soil in the fields. The colour becomes quite intense after heavy rain, or when boat screws churn up the sediment on the canal bed. The flight of five locks now plunges deep into a heavily wooded cutting.
