Summary[edit]
DescriptionApache Spring (5582006803).jpg |
I drove up to Fort Bowie from Chiricahua. This area got most of its history from this little spring that runs out of the rock and disappears in about 100 feet. It is the only year-round running water for miles around. Because of this, Cochise and his band of Apache Indians camped here. Because of Cochise, Fort Bowie was built a few hundred yards away. Because of Fort Bowie, the Overland Mail from St. Louis to California (24 days guaranteed delivery!) built a station here. Geronimo was captured here. That's a lot of history that arose from a small trickle of water. |
