Description
English: "The Most GENERAL MAP, Including CHINA, CHINESE TARTARY, and TIBET, Compiled from the Different Maps of the Rev. Fath. Jesuits by D'Anville, Geographer to the King, to which is Joined the Lands between Kashgar and the Caspian Sea Drawn from the Eastern Geographers and Historians", from the 1737 New Atlas of China, Chinese Tartary, and Tibet. The terminology of the day divided the Qing Empire into the lands of the Han ("China" or China Proper), the lands of the Mongols, Manchus, &c. ("Chinese Tartary" or Mongolia, Manchuria, and—to D'Anville—Korea taken together), and Tibet (sometimes inclusive of Tibetan lands in Qinghai, Sichuan, and Yunnan and areas now claimed by India; D'Anville includes Xinjiang under its heading).
