Stanco di tanta umiliazione e di servaggio decisi di svincolarmi e fare da me assumendo in conto proprio i lavori: villa del Conte Pennazzi, dal Prof. Comm. Attilio Muggia e così altri seguenti, sinchè nel 1903 fui richiesto dal Prof. Sigismondo Nardi – grande affreschista allievo del Prof. Mariani di Roma – per portarsi nella chiesa arcipretale di Borgo di Valsugana (Trentino) per dipingere la decorazione di detta chiesa, cupola e corpo della chiesa e cappelle annesse dove trovasi quella grande tavola del Pittoni (il San Matteo), per sei mesi vi lavorai indefesso.

Ritornato a Bologna, qui fui incaricato di dipingere l’appartamento del Sig. marchese Scarselli in via Mazzini – dell’eredità Bisteghi - dove fu ucciso il conte Bonmartini (N.d.r. caso Murri) - e vi è la famosa Venere di scuola del Perugino testè riportata nel catino dallo stesso Prof. Nardi -. Nel 1904 e 1905 fui a dipingere
