Nederlands: Objectgegevens Titel: Antiochus en Stratonice Beschrijving: Antiochus, de zoon van Seleucis, koning van Syrië, leed aan een ziekte van onbekende oorzaak. De arts Erasistratos wist de diagnose te stellen: Antiochus was dodelijk verliefd, en wel op Stratonike, de jonge vrouw van zijn vader en dus zijn stiefmoeder. De therapie van Erasistratos bestaat er uit dat hij Seleucis overreedt om Stratonike aan Antiochus te geven. Daarna geneest Antiochus snel. Bovendien maakt Seleucis z'n zoon en vrouw tot koning en koningin. (bron Plutarchus, Leven van Demetrios) Voorgesteld is het moment dat de oude Seleucis de jeugdige Stratonike aan Antiochus geeft, die op zijn ziekbed ligt. Op het tafeltje op de voorgrond enige medicijnflesjes in klassieke vormgeving. Behoort tot een serie van vier behangselstukken, Alexanders terughoudendheid (11223), Scipio's grootmoedigheid (11224), Cloelia bij de Tiber (11225), waarin vrouwen zich in de macht van mannen bevinden, maar eerbaar kunnen blijven dankzij de grootmoedigheid van die mannen. Herkomst: Afkomstig uit het in 1901 afgebroken huis Katwijk gelegen achter Boompjes 70 te Rotterdam en strekkend tot de Scheepmakershaven. Het pand werd afgebroken ten behoeve van de aanleg van de Rederijstraat.
