Deutsch: 1685 erbte Philipp Wilhelm die nach dem Dreißigjährigen Krieg neu eingerichtete zweite pfälzische Kurfürstenwürde. Die erste pfälzische Kurwürde war 1623 an die bayerischen Wittelsbacher gefallen. Seitdem gehörte er dem Gremium an, das die Kaiser wählte. Seine Kinder verheiratete er in ganz Europa, weshalb er später als "Schwiegervater des katholischen Europas" bezeichnet wurde. |
