NA PTJRCHASK CENTHNNIAL KSFOSITLOS. the passage of tlie bill, and arrang-ing for tlie Directors to appear in abody at a public hearing- upon the bill, the following morning at 10 oclock* The bill was finally passed by the House on May 10, and having beenalready approved by the Council, it was signed by Mayor Kolla Wells, andon May 26 it became a law. At this second meeting of the Board of Directors, by-laws were adopt-ed, and James L. Blair was elected Counsel General. It was decided to leave the selection of a site to the Executive Com-mittee, subject to the approval of the Board. The seven proposed sites \vere visited by the Executive Committee, oc-cupying four days, )May 29, 30, 31 and June 1. They were conveyed to points,as near as possible to the various locations in a private trolley car, Elec-tra, and at each stopping place they were met bj^ citizens with carriagesand tally-hos. and conveyed to points overlooking the ground on which itwas proposed to erect the great Exposition.

After gathering as much information as it was possible to glean froma personal inspection, the Executive Committee gave a special hearing,sitting on June 4, 5 and 6, to listen to arguments jDresented by advocatesof the seven proposed sites. From Jime 8 to June 23, 1901, meetings of the Executive Committeewere held almost daily, to consider the several arguments presented, andthe problem of transportation facilities for materials, exhibits and visitors. After summing- up the various arguments, and giving due considerationto all other points involved, the Executive Committee, on June 23. decidedthe Forest Park site to be the most available of all those proposed.
