r all countiesin this state where wheat is raised to be a conservative estimatefor this year. The grain has not been universally attacked overthe portions mentioned above but, as indicated, almost every lo-cality has suffered a little and some individual fields excessively.The Red River Valley is particularly afflicted and all along theline of the Great Northern Railroad from Alexandria to Moor-head and beyond, fallen wheat could be seen from the train andin such abundance as to indicate great numbers of this pest. In 1901 the first report of injury came from Otter Tail countywhere a local miller placed the loss at fifty per cent. It was alsoreported from St. Peter, St. James, Worthington, Pipestone, Mar- INSECTS INJURIOUS IN 1902. shall, Willmar, Wadena and Beaver Falls in 1895 and 1896 whenthe flies were abundant, the loss on the entire crop being estimatedat from five to ten per cent and in individual cases as high astwenty-five per cent. Mr. Forbes reports it present conspicuously
