side of the iron rangeoccurs an eruptive much altered, butphenocrysts of piagioclase are still de-tectable under the microscope. Thematrix is very fine-grained, showingminute lath-shaped feldspars which areprobably original or may be due to lateragencies causing a re-arrangement ofthe matrix. Mosaics of well-crystallizedquartz occur in irregularly bandedmasses suggesting amygdules. Muchsecondary calcite is present, especiallyin small veinlet* and associated withchlorite. This was probably originallyan andesite, and presents an unusual oc-currence among the rocks of the dis-trict. A hard, pinkish or flesh-redquartzite occurs near the iron range tothe north, outcropping on lake Wahna-pitae. A gravel plain lies on the re-serve to the south covering the con-tact with the granite or Laurentian. Other outcrops of iron range havebeen found between lake Wahnapitaeand Hutton township, near the contactof the Huronian and the granite. Badweather and lack of time prevented anexamination of them.
