ffects of dams upon rivers and outlets of lakes in the Adirondacks havebeen both disastrous and beneficial, so far as the pleasures of sportsmen areconcerned. Two notable instances are the dam raising Cranberry Lake, constructedmany years ago, the other of comparatively late construction on Beaver Riverwhere the Beaver River Club has its preserve. JOE DUNBAR. FISHES AND FISHING IN THE ADIRONDACK^. 285 grounds and fish food productive waters in the Adirondacks, where the largesttrout grow and afford the finest sport yet remaining in the whole State. The bushy,line-entangling alders, and the overhanging trees and all the green and lushvegetation, and bird songs, and camping places, and everything else at the memoryof which the old sportsmans heart leaps, are gone, all gone, and a desolationin
