Description

The Rocky Mountains region is a significant producer of natural gas, although natural gas production has been declining in recent years as high oil prices and recent drilling success in the Niobrara formation have steered producers towards oil production. The distribution of Niobrara area oil production reflects this, showing a significant but diminishing percentage of API 50+ production, which is commonly produced from wells targeting natural gas. Over the forecast period, production of oil with API gravity between 35 and 50 degrees expands to more than 60% of total oil production. Rocky Mountains oil production surpasses an average of 500,000 bbl/d in 2014. <a href="http://www.eia.gov/analysis/petroleum/crudetypes/pdf/crudetypes.pdf" rel="nofollow">www.eia.gov/analysis/petroleum/crudetypes/pdf/crudetypes.pdf</a>
