"Upright,of rather slender growth, producing freely large clusters of rather small flowers, yellow dotted with purple. The flowers are very fragrant, and this is considered equal to the linden as a honey-producing tree, while its value for timber is surpassed by few trees. The tree remains in bloom a long time, also blooms occasionally through mid-summer. Small trees, when two years old, bloom occasionally. The long, slender seed-pods, with which the trees are loaded through the fall, winter and spring months, are curious and interesting. The tree is desirable for lawn, avenue or timber plant- ing."— Teas. 2 years, 30 cents each, $3 per dozen. I C. speciosa. The Western Catalpa. Flow- ers very large and handsome. 25 cents and %\ each. C. Teas' Japanese Hybrid. We give the description of J. C. Teas, its originator. " The characteristics of the new variety are very marked, and partake largely of both its parents. In its vigorous, upright growth it even surpasses either. In its foliage— large, luxuriant and often, though not al- ways, lobed, like a maple or tulip-poplar leaf—we plainly see the Japanese influence of its parentage, while the American is un-

CATALPA, TEAS' JAPANESE HYBRID. CATALPA— Continued. mistakably shown in the profusion ot its larger and handsomer white flowers. The seed-pods and seeds are very distinct, and are intermediate between those of Speciosa, which are the largest of all, and Kcempferi, which are the smallest. It is the most pro- fuse bloomer of all the Catalpas, being liter- ally loaded with flowers and remaining in bloom several weeks—a much longer period than other Catalpas. The flowers are white, with small purple dots, and a touch of yel- low around the throat, which last is a mark from the Japanese side. The flowers have a very pleasant and delicate fragrance, and a tree in bloom not only presents a magni- cent spectacle to the eye, but also fills the air for quite a distance with its agreeable odor. Small trees planted in village lots grew without cultivation, in five years, to be twenty-five feet high and twenty-four inches in circumference at one foot from the ground. 2 years, large, 25 cents each, $2.50 per dozen, %2o per hundred. CELTIS Caucasica. A handsome and hardy tree from South Asia. Succeeds well here. Large, $1.50 each. C. occidentalis. The Hackberry. A good shade or ornamental tree. Small, 10 cents each. OEPHALANDRA Indica. 75 cts. each.
