Summary[edit]

Description
Deutsch: Anima Jungiana – Die Jungianische Seele

English: Anima Jungiana - The Jungian Soul

Carl Gustav Jung, "soul searcher" and founder of analytical psychology, built the Tower of Bollingen in 1923 at the Zurich-Obersee. A round tower inspired by the Middle Ages, it served him as a refuge for writing and for being able «to go inside himself». Jung carved Greek and Latin inscriptions as well as astrological and alchemical symbols, which are to describe the individuation process, into a cuboid stone that had been wrongly delivered for the tower's foundation,

The term "Anima", derived from Latin, means "soul" and is fundamental in Jung's theory of the archetypes of the collective unconscious.

"I had to make a confession of faith in stone. That was the beginning of the tower, the house I built for myself at Bollingen". Carl Jung, Memories, dreams, reflections, p.212 (1973).
