Description
English: Map of the Angolan Civil War during May 1987 - June 1988.

With another government offensive launched on Mavinga, South Africa rushed to UNITA's aid again. Hoping to prevent another offensive the following year, South Africa began their own assault, attempting to drive their foe over the Cuito River. Despite falling short of their goal, they did succeed in warding off another offensive the next year. Not long after, Cuban and government forces started amassing in Cunene province. The escalation of tensions saw South Africa and Cuba clash for the last time on 27 June 1988. With both sides not willing to continue fighting, negotiations resumed, eventually leading to the withdrawal of both nations and the independence of Namibia. Sources used:
