By its deep sur-face, with the Opponens pollicis, from which it is separated by a thin aponeurosis.Its inner border is separated from the Flexor brevis pollicis by a narrow cellularinterval. The Opponens Pollicis is a small triangular muscle, placed beneath the pre-ceding. It arises from the palmar surface of the trapezium and annular ligament;passing downwards and outwards, it is inserted into the whole length of the meta-carpal bone of the thumb on its radial side. Relations. By its superficial surface, with the Abductor pollicis. By its deep OF THE HAND. surface^ with tlie trapezio-metacarpal articulation. By its inner border, with theFlexor brevis poUicis. The Flexor Brevis Pollicis is much larger than either of the two precedingmuscles, beneath which it is placed. It consists of two portions, in the intervalbetween which lies the tendon of the Flexor longus pollicis. The anterior and 177,—Muscles of the Left Hand. Palmar Surface.

A sesamoid bone is developed in each tendon as it passes across the meta-carpo-phalangeal joint. Relations. By its superficial surface, with the palmar fascia.
