Summary[edit]

Description
English: This photo depicts a fly overwintering in my house on the windowsill. Flies are important decomposers in nature and break down all kinds of biological waste, and some of their maggots even eat plastic! Flies are also pollinators, just like butterflies and bees, and they are also the sole pollinators of cocoa plants, so if flies disappeared, so would chocolate, hot cocoa, chocolate milk, and all the other cocoa products we all love! Some species of flies overwinter in our homes when it is cold outside. Flies do a lot more for you than you think, so next time you see a fly, please don't swat it. If it's warm outside, just slide a cup over it and put an index card under it and release it outside, it will help your plants grow and clean up your yard and the rest of the neighborhood!
