| Description |
English: An ancient battleground. This narrow path leads across fields in southwesterly direction; it veers off a farm track > 1027038 which turns off the B1150 (North Walsham Road) by the old stump cross, leading to Lord Anson's Wood (seen in the background). The path traverses the site of the battle fought in 1381 between the forces of Bishop Spencer and the rebels under John Leicester, a dyer from Norwich. This battle is commemorated by the stump cross, relocated a short distance further to the northeast and now standing by the entrance to the water towers beside the B1150 > 1065047. http://www.northwalshamguide.co.uk/north_walsham_history.asp |
