Summary
[edit]DescriptionAn Sgurr from the southeast, Island of Eigg, Inner Hebrides - geograph.org.uk - 1580294.jpg |
English: An Sgurr from the southeast, Island of Eigg, Inner Hebrides This dramatic rock sentinel on Eigg is the most characteristic feature of the island's topology. It can be clearly identified with the unaided eye from the mainland and (from some viewpoints) gives the impression that the island has been endowed with a giant shark's fin. From the northwest, it is much easier to climb An Sgurr than would at first appear.
Eigg is served by a regular private, passenger ferry from Arisaig. The crossing takes less than one hour. It has a small resident population and facilities for visitors to stay overnight (unlike the neighbouring island of Rum, which is uninhabited). |
