DescriptionAn 845 NAS Sea King Mk4 helicopter picked up some passengers on their way to another part of Southern Iraq. MOD 45146107.jpg |
English: An 845 NAS Sea King Mk4 helicopter picked up some passengers on their way to another part of Southern Iraq.
During operations in Southern Iraq, Sea King Mk4s of 845 & 846 Naval Air Squadrons were tasked with multiple jobs to carryout during their tours of duty at Basra International Airport. Much of the tasking involved perimeter checks of Basra Airport and also troop/personnel moves to and from various locations within southern and central Iraq. The squadrons operated on a 24-hour watch system and were always on hand as a medical air ambulance, in case troops were injured out on the ground. Basra Airport was also home to the first new aircraft of the Iraqi Air Force, which was reformed in 2004, with two aircraft in service and flown by Iraq Air Force pilots.
