Object history Coleção Lebreton
Notes The painting shows a rare combination of three different iconographies: Pietà, Our Lady of Sorrows, and Man of Sorrows. It was formerly considered a copy of painting by Charles Lebrun, but its more likely to be inspired by a small copper panel by Frére Luc (1615-1685) currently housed in the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The execution, however, seems to be Italian, and recalls the style of workshop of Guido Reni.
