Title
Amphora Handle
Description
English: A handle from a Roman Amphora. The rest of the vessel is missing. The large handle is constructed from a sandy fabric. There is a stamp along the central ridge of the upper handle, but this is illegible. The handle's size, robustity, and broadly sweeping curve are indicative of it being Dressel type 20, which would date it to between AD 50 and 250, though this may be from the late series. Amphorae such as this example were often used to transport olive oil, and were often stamped with the name of the estate owner responsible for the oil production.
