Taverns That Entertained Washington asked his landlords little daughter to mendit for him. This she did so neatly that,when she returned the glove, Washingtontook her upon his knee and gave her a kiss.Which so elated Miss Priscilla Abbott thatshe would not allow her face to be washedagain for a week! This old tavern, long theresidence of Samuel Locke, is still standing,and is in an excellent state of preservationthough no longer used for the entertainmentof the public. Needham, Sherburn, Holliston, Milfordand Menden were the places next along theroute, and by the end of this day (Novem-ber 6) the party has reached Tafts at Ux-bridge, having travelled thirty-six miles.Tafts inn made a very good impressionupon the President; we find him writing,the day after his stay there, this character-istic letter to the proprietor: Hartford 8 November, 1789 Sir — Being informed that you havegiven my name to one of your sons, andcalled another after Mrs. Washingtons fam-ily, and being, moreover, v
