The fireplace end of the living-room other ways. A study of the accompanying plans will showclearly what additions and alterations were made. Oneporch is entirely new and the large one on the southside of the house twelve by nineteen feet is used as an out-door living-room. There is a flat roof over this porch witha canvas deck which makes a practical porch for use on thesecond story. The living-room is a good-sized room andthe old fireplace and mantel have been retained. Theprincipal addition to the first floor is a kitchen and theservants bedroom. The kitchen was formerly in the base-«ment which was very inconvenient, although owing to theslope of the land, the basement on the east side of the houseis very well lighted and ventilated, being above the grade.It will be noticed that the servants-room does not opendirectly into the kitchen, but into an entry connecting withit. The old stairs which are of simple Colonial design havebeen retained. The principal changes have been made on
