IGHT in the heart of New York, at 39thStreet and Fifth Avenue, an old-fashionedfour-story brownstone house has beentransformed by a new front of quaint Co-lonial design consisting of tiers of latticewindows reaching to the second story. Thepicturesque appearance of the house isfurther enhanced by the charming doorway, having latticewindows on thesides, with a roofcovered with redtiles, which also ex-tends above thelower group ofcasement windows.Geraniums or fernsare kept freshlygrowing in the at-tractive little ivy-covered tubs whichare placed aroundthe doorway. On entering wefind ourselves in along, low hall fur-nished with antiquefurniture. On theright the dooropens into an old-world Colonialkitchen with white-washed rafteredceiling, and in thedistance may beseen an old hand-made brick fireplacewith a Dutch oven,reminding one ofan old New Eng-1 a n d farmhousekitchen.
