ng the Lodge,one stops and admires the great bridge, which is built ofselected cobblestone taken from the grounds of the estate.On one side of the bridge is a wall fountain supplied by acooling stream, which affords water for beast, bird and man.This cobblestone work leads along in the form of a fence tothe steps that follow up to the Lodge, which is perched onan incline at the fork of the road and rivers. The Lodge hasa cobblestone chimney built on the exterior of the building,which is the chief feature of the outside walls. The exteriorwalls are covered with matched sheathing, good buildingpaper and shingles left to weather finish, while the trim-mings are painted red. The roof is covered with shinglesand stained a deep Indian red. After passing across thepiazza, which extends across the front of the Lodge, theentrance is reached. The interior is arranged with one largeroom in the front of the house and a kitchen placed in therear, while the second floor contains the sleeping-rooms.

The living-room throughout is stained with asoft forest green. At one end of the room is a great open fire-place, built of selected cobblestone. The mantelshelf is ofrough hewn stone and isornamented with Indianrelics and curios. A divannook is placed at the op-posite end of the room.This is a true living-room,in which the family reallylive and in which the mealsare served. The kitchen isfitted with a pantry, sinkand cupboard complete. The second floor con-tains two bedrooms, bath-room and trunkroom. Thebathroom is furnished withporcelain fixtures and ex-posed plumbing. Thecabin cost less than onethousand dollars to build.Mr. Coutant planned hisown lodge, and the ser-vices of an architect werenot required. Rock Ledge, thecamp built for Mr. A. E.
