Wilderness Reserves ness life are to be kept unspoiled for the benefitof our childrens children. Eastern people, andespecially eastern sportsmen, need to keep steadilyin mind the fact that the westerners who live inthe neighborhood of the forest preserves are themen who in the last resort will determine whetheror not these preserves are to be permanent. Theycannot in the long run be kept as forest and gamereservations unless the settlers roundabout believein them and heartily support them; and the rightsof these settlers must be carefully safeguarded, andthey must be shown that the movement is reallyin their interest. The eastern sportsman who failsto recognize these facts can do little but harm byadvocacy of forest reserves.
