Détail de la carte de l'exposition de 1937 (zone du Trocadéro et de la Tour Eiffel) Le palais de Tokyo est construit pour accueillir le musée d'art moderne de la ville de Paris (toujours en place) et le Musée national d'art moderne (qui a déménagé au centre G. Pompidou). Le Palais d'Iéna, (pavillon des travaux publics, aujourd'hui conseil économique, social et environnemental) est construit par Auguste Perret, mais ne sera terminé qu'en 1946. Sur la carte, il est représenté terminé alors qu'en 1937 une seule aile a été édifiée.
