De dood en een kind bij een vaas met bloemen, links en rechts vanitassymbolen als een gevleugelde zandloper als attribuut van Vader Tijd, een doodshoofd en een rokende pot. In de achtergrond een bloeiende en een dode boom, voor welke in beide gevallen een rijksappel ligt. Bij de bloeiende boom tevens een pelgrim op een pad en een visser aan de rand van een beek. Gravure door Jacob Matham naar een ontwerptekening door Karel van Mander (I) met Latijns onderschrift van Cornelius Schonaeus en Nederlands opschrift van Karel van Mander (I), onder zijn motto een is nodich, gesigneerd en gedateerd.
