Description
English: Alla Elana Cohen received her education in Moscow, Russia, graduating from Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory with the highest honors of distinction.

She lives in Boston, MA, and is on the faculty at Berklee College of Music, and the New England Conservatory, where she teaches composition, harmony, counterpoint and ear-training by her own method. She teaches composition, ear-training and piano also at her private studio.

As a composer, she works in all the genres of orchestral, chamber and operatic music(look at the list of her recent compositions). Her compositions have been performed with much success throughout the USA. She has been recognized as a composer by ASCAP, being annually a recipient of ASCAPLUS Awards, and has received commissions from the Music Teachers National Association(USA).

Many composition students of Professor Cohen have been prize-winners of numerous prestigious state, national and international Composers' Competitions, including Queen Elisabeth Composers' Competition in Brussels, Belgium; Composers' Competition in Haifa, Israel; Lepo Sumera Competition in Tallin, Estonia; Robert Helps Prize; Beethoven Club Competition; ASCAP Morton Gould Award Competition; International Young Artists Competition in Connecticut; Pikes Peak National Young Composers Competition; New York Art Ensemble National Competition; National Level of MTNA Competition(all-USA), etc. Alla Elana Cohen has been awarded, as a teacher, by ASCAP with Award for "inspiring, educating and mentoring young musicians to become composers of tomorrow", as well as being the recipient of numerous Certificates of Recognition and Awards as a teacher of MTNA Young Composers' Competition National Level winners. She was awarded with Ted Pease Excellence in Teaching Award by Berklee College of Music.

Alla Elana Cohen is the author of the book on ear-training "Perfect Pitch for You", that was published in 2007 by Len Rhodes Music Publishing, ASCAP. She is also the author of the books, dedicated to various aspects of harmony: " The Art of Modulation", "In the Vertical Realm". Besides that, she is also an author of numerous poems both in Russian and in English.

The CD of Alla Elana Cohen - "Dedications", that will contain two of her String Quartets, compositions for Cello and Piano, for Violin and Piano, for solo Cello, for Trio: Violin,Cello and Piano, will be soon released. You will receive further information about it on this website.
