Summary[edit]
DescriptionAll Saints Church - stairs to room above porch - geograph.org.uk - 868597.jpg |
English: All Saints Church - stairs to room above porch These stone steps lead to the room above the porch.
The tower of All Saints church > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/868534 - https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/868557 - https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/868587 dates from the 14th century; it was restored twice during the 20th century and the sun dial above the porch, which has an upstairs room is modern > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/868542. The rood screen > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/868565 dates from the 15th century and is unusual in that the paintings on its 16 panels depict not apostles or saints but kings. The tower screen > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/868593 has the date 1605 carved in its doors. The C14 wall paintings above the arcades > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/868579 are faded (or were overpainted at some time); the depiction of the stoning of St Stephen > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/868584 in one of the spandrels is the only remaining scene that still is clearly visible. The octagonal font > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/868589 is C15. The church is open every day. For more information see: http://www.norfolkchurches.co.uk/catfield/catfield.htm |
