Summary[edit]

Description The present church is the third building on this site. In Saxon times a wooden church was erected on the ridge near the river crossing. The church would therefore have been a Saxon gateway church dedicated to “All Saints”, so as to be acceptable to all comers. The Normans rebuilt the church and was rebuilt again in the Fifteenth Century. The lower stage of the tower is of that time. The Georgian rebuilding seen today was in 1742-45 with a further Victorian Restoration in 1869.
