Depicted person: Alexander Forbes, 1st Lord Forbes of Pitsligo

(Portrait of Alexander, 1st Lord Forbes of Pitsligo (d. 1636), half-length, wearing a slashed doublet and white ruff. The son of John Forbes of Pitsligo (b. circa 1565-1625) and Christian (b. circa 1580), daughter of Walter, 1st Lord Ogilvy, Alexander was raised to the peerage in 1633 but the date of the present portrait must be nearer 1630. About this time he married Lady Jean Keith (b. circa 1610), daughter of the 6th Earl Marischal and his wife, Mary Erskine)
