| Description |
English: Aldwych: The Strand, WC2 Of interest in this photograph is one of the City of Westminster's three mobile CCTV cars, parked innocuously in the shade of the plane trees on the left, but with a camera mounted at the top of the mast in the roof. According to their website the council
"deploy these CCTV vehicles to areas that would benefit from a presence that has proved very effective in the past at deterring anti-social behaviour and collecting evidence about a number of different types of crime. The team deploy the vehicles both on a proactive monitoring basis and as part of specific operations requested by a range of partners, including the Metropolitan Police. All use of CCTV equipment is governed by the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA)." Also of note is an old-fashioned route direction sign, just above and to the left of the CCTV car, indicating Trafalgar Square and Waterloo straight on, and Parliament Square to the left. This type of sign, with black text in a white box on a blue background, is quite rare now. On the right is the south-west corner of St Clement Danes Church. |
