| Description | Alaska Guardsmen Spc. Tahdg Nakada, a signal support specialist with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment, and Pfc. Travis Cooper, a construction equipment mechanic with the 207th Engineer Utility Detachment, train at approximately 4,500 feet elevation in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, in Canmore, Alberta, Nov. 21-Dec. 2, 2016. The Guardsmen put in 15 to 20 hours per week of cardio including skate and classic skiing and running. Additionally, they incorporated strength training and shooting into their training regimen. Nakada, 22 of Anchorage, and Cooper, 20 of Kenai, train year round and compete on the National Guard Biathlon development team. Biathlon is a winter sport that combines skiing and precision marksmanship in both the prone and standing positions.
